2002 Wolf Pack Invite (San Diego Section) has some wet conditions with two course records (Boys All-time CR Falls!!!) coming from the day's action!!! 2002 by DyeStat, Dyestatcal Complete Results - Fr/So - Jr/Sr Swier and Wagnew before start - Elaine Gillespie (West Hills) 2nd and Katherine Wingert (Coronado) 3rd Girls Jr race (George Green photos)
Frosh winners - Carl Dargitz and Kelsey Lysander - both of Rancho Bernardo (SD) - George Green photos A hugely anticipated match-up between super eleventh graders Babey Wagnew (Helix (La Mesa) and Troy Swier (Mar Vista, Imperial Beach) (above George Green photos) let no one down, with the impressive twosome racing to the two fastest times in course history during this event. On the Girls' side Lindsay de la Montaigne (Rancho Bernardo) surprisingly established a new grade record in her soph grade race run of 9:08, with Danielle Schuster (Torrey Pines, Encinitas) winning the eleventh grade contest at 9:10 (just behind the 9:08 grade record from Desiree Davila). Wagnew, 9:15.51 for 3200m in track last spring at Arcadia, was the state's quickest soph over 8 laps in the spring, with Swier 9:22.79 for the same distance. Troy added a 4:18.31 160 (State's #3 soph there). Swier took Wagnew in last year's Division II Section Cross-Country event 15:38-15:42, with Wagnew setting most of the pace here, and Swier emerging in the harrier sport once again the victor 10:15-10:22. The next best time in Course History is 10:53, so the duo was smoking!!! Wow!!! Lindsay de la Montaigne had a super fall cross-country season last year for Rancho Bernardo, highlighted with a fifth at State Division I with the meet's fastest ninth grade time while splashing through the water behind Amber Trotter, Foot Locker National Champ. She did not show up in spring track and field results, but obviously came out charging here once again this hill and dale season, with a fine divisional record 9:08 run that had her emerge as the "fastest of the day" over conservatively starting Danielle Schuster (Torrey Pines, Encinitas), the 4:54 1600 runner from track, who was 9:10 during a senior race win. Desiree Davila (Hilltop) has the All-Time CR with her 8:48 for the senior class, with the duo of de la Montaigne and Schuster having something to aim at after next summer!!!! Swier's improvement over last year (11:05 for soph CR) of fifty seconds is quite impressive, with de la Montaigne setting the Girls frosh record last year with her 9:21 win. de la Montaigne and Schuster are scheduled to meet next weekend at the Bronco Invite sponsored by Rancho Bernardo HS. Schuster was the varsity winner there last year at 11:53, with de la Montaigne impressing that morning, still a part of the JV, with a 200 meter win at 12:12. Should be the "state match-up of the week!!" Top 5 Results Wolf Pack Invite
