Meghan Marvin (Clovis) is one of the nation's best
Buchanan's Jonathan Sanchez should headline Boys' distance fields

Forecast is for sub-60 degree weather and showers.  If the locals all show
it should be a good spring start for the distance types.  Seth Defonseka (Clovis East)
was 1:56.34 for 800m and 4:25.95 for 1600m last spring, with Clovis West's Andrew Campbell
1:56.70 and 4:26.17.  Jonathan Sanchez (Buchanan) was 4:18.07 and 9:26.6 in the 1600/3200,
with Eric Battles (Clovis West) 9:25.19, and Buchanan soph Heath Reed 9:32.8 for 3200m.
Meghan Marvin (Clovis) (5:05.79 and 10:39.54), teammate Saylah Barsarian (5:00.50), and
Chloe Allen (Clovis West) 5:00.39 and 10:59.19 should headline the Girls events. Madera's
Alisha Brown showed great ability as a frosh last spring with 2:11.92 (800) and 4:54.9 1600m
clockings.

Edison and Buchanan - Central Section powers should battle once again - Brittany Williams
(Edison) top Section short hurdler

Saturday's forecast is for cloudy, cool weather.  Should be some great competition with some expected still to be
on the Basketball courts.  Long sprinters Jelani Hendrix (Edison 49.6 400) and James Kellogg (Buchanan-50.1 400)
should lead their school's sprint/relay groups.  Fine young 300 hurdlers Miles Payseno (Clovis 40.53 as soph) and
Sean Johnson (Buchanan 40.4 as frosh) will start their season- long battles. 6-10 High Jumpers Kenny Phillips
(Central) and Travis Smith (Buchanan) headline the Boys field, with Curtis O'Neil (Clovis East) a 14-00 Pole Vaulter.  
Phillips is also a 22-09 Long Jumper, with Christian Millar (Clovis East) 55-11 last year in the Shot Put. Niko Gomes
(Clovis) 171-1 Discus, will battle with Bakersfield's Collin Ellis (157-11) and Travis Smith (Clovis West) 154-02.
The Section's top short girl dashers should be on display, with Brushey Wandick (Bakersfield), Adriana Johnson
(Clovis East), Rachel Eng (Edison), and Ashley Collier (Bullard) on the relays here.   Iasashia Aldredge (Central)
was a 57.20 400 runner last spring, with Brittany Williams (Edison) the Valley short hurdles champ (15.18) battling
with 15.30 junior Brittney Rogers (Clovis East).  Michaela Griffin (Clovis) 46.10 and Anisha Guajardo (Buchanan)
46.23 are among the Section's top long hurdlers. Janae Horton (Edison) was 5-04 in the High Jump last Spring, with
Allison Berryhill (Clovis West) an 11-06 Pole Vaulter. Channel Reaves (Bakersfield) 17-07.25 heads the Long Jump,
with Destanie Yarbrough (Clovis East) at 44-07.5 one of the State 's best Shot Putters.
