So the foot is healthy after all.
Mission College Prep junior Jordan Hasay threw on her racing flats for a bit of a health test on Saturday and gave two thumbs up to her performance, a stunning 9:23.90 clocking for 3000 meters that moved her to #15 on the all-time high school list.
Hasay, who suffered a foot injury in early December, placed sixth while competing unattached in a mixed-gender all-comers race at the Cuesta College Open on Saturday.
"I was happy with the (personal record), but was hoping to run a litle faster," Hasay explained. "I ended up running way too fast at the start."
Hasay estimated her opening 200 meter segment to be about 32 seconds as she got caught up in the adrenaline as several collegians bolted into a quick race at the race's start. Jameson Mora, a graduate of Canyon Country Canyon HS and Cal Poly San Luis Osibpo, won in 8:35.72. The first three athletes broke 8:50. Ben Siqueiros, son of Hasay's coach (Armando Siqueiros) and a friend who has paced her in time trials before, placed fourth in 9:19.29.
"But the man reason I ran was t test my foot ," added Hasay, "and the good news is that I didn't do any damage to it, so San Diego is still a go!"
Hasay will run in the Juniors race at this Saturday's USATF Cross-Country Championships at Mission Bay in San Diego County this weekend. Hasay informed us earlier in the week that she may not make the trip to Scotland for the IAAF World Championships meet in March should she be fortunate enough to earn a bid onto Team USA this weekend. She has stated a desire to focus more on the upcoming track and field season, specifically aiming for target races at the Arcadia Invitational and then again in the postseason and summertine.
