Tori Anthony All-Time Best HS
Pole Vaulter in New York this weekend!!

California’s latest National All-Time Record Holder, Tori Anthony (Castilleja HS), who earlier this winter Pole Vaulted better than any prep female in history, 14-02.5, will headline Golden State preps at this weekend’s National Scholastic Indoor Championships in the Armory in New York City. Tori will lead an army of Golden State stars who will cart home a ton of Medals from the Big Apple’s action on the super facility there. A great group from Speed City TC (Long Beach Poly) with an amazing recent baton tradition here will bring super relay groups with individual stars spilling over into the 200 and 400. 17-05 Boys’ star Casey Roche (St. Francis) and 16-06 star, Nico Weiler (Los Gatos), will battle in the Boys’ vault. Ke’Nyia Richardson (Holy Names HS) is prep history’s #3 All-Time Prep Triple Jumper indoors at 42-09.25 and is poised to go farther!! Jeneba Tarmoh leads talented California sprinters on the rocket Armory track, with Miranda Wilson (Bishop O’Dowd) battling many of the nation’s best in the Shot Put.

Tori Anthony’s lastest Pole Vault adventure was a fine eleventh competing against the top Olympic level US Athletes at the USATF Indoor Meet in Boston, with the frequent flyer hoping to move up past 14 feet again this weekend on another east coast trip. Anthony will be challenged by 12-6 or better vaulters Bethany Dumas (Maine), Stephanie Duffy (NY), Daisy Glasser (Fl), and Becki Finn (Pa). In the Boy’s Vault, Casey Roche, 17-05 last summer and 16-03 this winter, has German student Nico Weiler, 16-06 this winter, and a group of five 15-06 east coast vaulters to challenge them for the first two spots.

Ke'Nyia Richardson #3 AT US Triple Jumper Indoors!!

Ke’Nyia Richardson has had a super winter, but one senses she has expected more, with this her last chance undercover this year here. With only Juliana Yendork (Walnut HS 1991 43-11.5) and Brittany Daniels (West, Tracy 2005 43-05) ahead of her on the National All-Time High School indoor list, Richardson hopes to bust a big one and take her yearly nation-leading best of 42-09.25 well over 43 feet. 40-footers Stephanie McIntyre (NJ), Gabriela Baiter (NY), and Taylor Nichols (Stockdale, Bakersfield) hope to get out and push the Oakland area star!

Super Sophs - Turquoise Thompson and Jasmine Joseph!!

Speed City folks will be all over the place! The group set National records here in 2003 (Girls 4x200 1:35.86), 2004 (Girls 4x200 3:38.91), and 2005 (Boys 4x200 1:26.09) with the group hoping to get back on “record-line” in 2007!! Talented long sprinters Turquoise Thompson and Jasmine Joseph will lead the Speed City Girls, with Bryshon Nellum, Isaiah Green, and Joey Hughes headlining the Boys’ group. The Girls will be challenged by sub-3:50 indoor group Boys & Girls of Brooklyn in the 4x4, with West Charlotte, NC (1:28.84 in the 4x2) anchored by rocket Trenton Guy, and Monmouth Regional (NJ) and Dematha Catholic (Md) right at 3:20 in the 4x4 to challenge the Long Beach team. Nellum (200) and the duo of Thompson and Joseph (400) will branch out individually. State 200 Champ Bryshon will face Oregon’s 21.40 200 indoor star Ryan Bailey, with Trenton Guy 21.52 this winter. In the Girls’ 400 Thompson and Joseph will face local star Delilah Muhammad (54.07 behind Thompson’s 53.78 at Simplot) in a great struggle.

Jeneba Tarmoh and Vashti Thomas

Jeneba Tarmoh (Mt. Pleasant) and a good California crew, with Ebony Collins among the entrants, will face a dynamite group of dashers in the Girls 60 and 200, with Michigan’s Shayla Mahan very hot this winter in equaling Tarmoh’s 7.26 =#5 All-Time US Prep best in the Midwest. North Carolina’s Gabby Mayo was the Nation’s Track & Field News Athlete of the Year with an 11.16 outdoor 100m (#5 US HS History) and will be a rocket here, with Texans Tiffany Townsend and Erica Alexander, Bakersfield’s Dominique Lauderdale, and Oakland’s super frosh Ashton Purvis, adding tremendous depth!

Miranda Wilson

In the Shot Put, Miranda Wilson (Bishop O’Dowd) will be hoping for recovery from an ankle sprain, with a great Shot Put field in New York, as New Jersey’s Deanne Hahn is 47-02 this winter and Lauren Chambers (Ga) 45-03.5 head a fine field!

Vashti Thomas (Mt. Pleasant) with a huge 60m Hurdles win at Simplot will join Julian Purvis, State outdoor 100mHH champ from St. Elizabeth in Oakland, to battle a good group. Lindsay Rowe (NY) was .004 behind Thomas for second at Simplot, with Ke’Nyia Richardson third at Simplot and a leading entrant here, so the Golden Staters will crowd the medal stand in this event. Vashti Thomas will be looking for her third individual medal during the competition (Hurdles and Triple Jump) in the Long Jump. Eric Hersey (Los Altos HS) and Alfred Hines (Speed City-LB Poly) will challenge for finals spots in a good Boys 60m barrier event.

Isaiah Green (Speed City-LB Poly) heads Golden State hopes in the flat Boys 60m event, with sub-37 second 300 hurdler Jeshua Anderson (Taft HS, WH) and Jason Ward (South Bakersfield) both entered in a solid 400 meter dash. Brian Cole (St. Helena) will face a Mile group with three under 4:20. Kevin Rutledge (Los Gatos) will be very competitive in the High Jump, with Los Gatos and Maria Carrillo strong Girls distance relay groups.
