Team USA roster announced for 2007 Pan American Junior Athletic Championships

INDIANAPOLIS - USA Track and Field announced the Team USA roster for the 2007 Pan American Junior Athletic Championships, held July 6-8 in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

A total of 70 athletes - 35 men and 35 women - will be part of the U.S. squad making the trip to Brazil. The roster for the U.S. was based on performance at last weekend's Finish Line Junior Track and Field Championships held in Indianapolis, Ind.

Team USA will be led at the Pan American Championships by a large number of record setters and award winners.

Bryshon Nellum (Los Angeles, Calif.) was recently selected as Gatorade National Boys Track and Field Athlete of the Year. He won the 400 meter dash at the Finish Line Junior Outdoor Championships last weekend in Indianapolis, Ind., in a time of 45.38 seconds.

2007 Gatorade National Youth Track & Field Athlete of the Year and two-time U.S. Junior champion Emily Pendleton (Elmore, Ohio) will compete in the women's discus. Pendleton won the 2007 Junior Outdoor Championships with a throw of 49.52m/162-06.

Walter Henning (Kings Park, N.Y.) will represent Team USA at the Pan American Junior Athletic Championships in the hammer throw. Henning established a new American Junior and meet record at the Finish Line Outdoor Championships with a throw of 73.59m/241-05.

Rynell Parsons (San Antonio, Texas) leads a strong sprint crew for Team USA after winning the 100m dash at the Finish Line Junior Championships in a World Youth best time of 10.23. Parsons edged out Scott Wims (Fort Wayne, Ind.) by one-hundredth of a second. Along with the 100m dash, Wims will represent Team USA in the 200m.

Two-time U.S. junior champion and 2007 Nike Outdoor National champion Jessica Beard (Euclid, Ohio) ran 52.12 in the 400m dash at the Junior Championships and will race for Team USA at that distance. Beard won a gold medal a year ago in the 4x400m relay at the IAAF World Youth Championships.
