Part of the superb Chinese field event group for the World Junior
Championships will be 2005 World Youth HJ Champ Gu Biwei

Event Preview -
The home nation's Zheng Xingyuan (China) has jumped 1.92 (6-03.5) both last year and this, with a 1.88 (6-02) back-up effort this April.  She had four efforts between 1.88 and 1.92 in 2005, with a 1.87 (6-01.5) 2004 best, with the Beijing setting obviously a great one for the local star!  Annett Engel (Germany) was fourth in the 204 World Junior Championship Meet at 1.87 (6-01.5), with a 1.91 (6-03.25) indoors this winter and 1.89 (6-02.25) back-up in 2006. Gu Biwei (China) was the 2005 World Youth Champ with a 1.90 (6-02.75) best from 2005, and 1.89 (6-02.25) effort this spring.  Sophia Begg (Australia) was runner-up in the 2005 World Youth Meet with a 1.88 (6-02) best and four 1.86 (6-01.25) or better meets during the 2005 season.  Svetlana Radzivil (Uzbekistan) has jumped 1.90 (6-02.75) indoors this winter (and 1.89 6-02.25 back-up), with 1 .85 (6-00.75) 2005 and 1.88 (6-02) 2004 bests.

A flock of others have bests of 1.87 (6-01.5) or better to make this a fine, deep contest.  Viktoria Leks (Estonia) was 1.90 (6-02.75) this winter (and 1.87 (6-01.5 in 2005), with Alesia Herasimava (Bulgaria) 1.88 (6-02) indoors in 2006 (and 1.87 (6-01.5) in 2005), and 1.87 (6-01.5) jumpers Nataliya Hapchuk (Ukraine), Juliana Urban (Germany), and Yekaterina Yevseyeva (Kazakhstan - third World 2005 Youth Championships) strong candidates for spots among the top half dozen.

It is a shame that American Deastinee Hooker passed on the affair, with the 1.92 (6-03.5) indoor star the US National Collegiate Champ along the way this spring with a number of very fine competitive efforts.
