Event Preview - 16:30.00 World Jr Entry Standard
Choices will probably be made about doubling, with the fields here adjusted significantly at the top end if main actors decide on the 3000 only instead of the 5k/3k double--the 5000 race is August 15th, with the 3k trials August 17th and finals the 19th.  If the main actors from Kenya and Ethiopia show up here there should be two races, the front pack from those two countries, and anyone else who wishes to risk it all by tagging along. Pauline Korikwiang (Kenya) was seventh in the Bislett Games this June at 14:45.98, the #7 All-Time World Junior for the distance, and she is the defending World Junior Cross-Country titlest. Veronica Wanjiru, World Youth 3k champ at 9:01.61 last year and runner-up in the World Harrier contest, has 15:13.1 at Nairobi's altitude last year.  As Kenya juggles the two entry situation, steadily improving Everline Kimwei, 15:14.15 last year, may fill in if the 3k is chosen by someone.  Ethiopia adds Workitu Ayanu (14:50.51 from this June), with that the #11 clocking All-Time at the Junior level, with a sixth from the World Cross-Country run this spring.  Wude Yimer (Ethiopia) was eleventh at Bislett in 14:57.23, the #16 All-Time World Junior clocking.  The rest of the world is some thirty seconds behind Yimer.
