Event Preview -
We will see who shows up from some of the prominent nations in this event.  Some are competing regularly on the world senior circuit at the moment and some in this age group have run very fast over the last two years, then fallen off the list events.

Japan's Yuriko Kobayashi has run 4:07.87 this spring, with a runner-up 4:11.00 effort in her nation's senior championships.  She was third in last year's World Youth Champs at 4:13.96, with a 4:12.85 05 best.  Kenya should lead the African charge here, with a group of top 1500 stars to decide from.  Veronica Wanjiru has run 4:08.22 at the senior level this May, following a second place World Junior Cross Country effort in the Spring, where she recorded the same time as winner, teammate Pauline Korikwiang.  Kenya also comes with 2005 World Youth champ Sheila Chepkiru 4:12.29 in that track run and fourth in the World Junior CC race this spring.  Irene Jelagat (Kenya) has three sub 4:12.4's this summer in Europe at the senior level this year with a 4:12.32 best.  The home nation China's Yin Yuan was 4:11.66 and 4:15.11 in two races in the United States during a spring swing there in March and April, with Huang Jing from China 4:10.13 in the 2005 National Games in her homeland. Ethiopia's Emebet Etea Bedada has run 4:10.48 this May, with Great Britain's Stephanie Twell 4:12.76 this summer.  Brooke Simpson (Australia) was fifth in the 2004 World Junior championships (4:19.13), with a 4:17.24 run in 2005.  Azra Eminovic (Serbia and Montenegro) was third in the 2005 European Juniors at 4:15.77 last summer.

3:38 and 3:28 were the 1200 splits in the 2004 World Junior Semi-Final contests in this event, with the final heat group usually figuring the times needed to qualify on to the finals and going for broke on the clock (8 from that second heat in 2004 qualified for the finals, 4 from the first contest), with the American duo of Erin Bedell (4:21.29 second 2005 Pan Am Juniors) and Danielle Tauro (4:21.05) both strong finishers.
