Men's Triple Jump

The combined Cuban/Russian squads, which make up a majority of a 2005/2006 World Junior Top Ten Best Marks listing for the event, will supply a strong group here. Hector Fuentes (Cuba) was the World Youth Champ last summer at 16.63 (54-06.75), with country mates Rene Mola 16.49 (54-01.25), Yordanis Duranona 16.30 (53-04.75), and Elicer Martinez 16.23 (53-03) very talented! Ilya Yefremov leads the Russian charge, as the second place finisher in the 2005 World Youth competition 16.45 (53-11.75) has Dmitriy Nikonov 16.43 (53-11), and Sanislav Ionov 16.23 (53-03) as possible team members. Hugo Chila (Eucador) is the 2005 South American Junior Champ with a best of 16.55 (54-04.75) from this June. China will be in the medal hunt here, with Zhong Minwei, the 2006 National Junior Champ at 16.34 (53-7.5) and runner-up Dong Bin 16.22 (53-02.75) excited in front of the home folks.

Benjamin Compaore (France) was fifth in last year's European Junior Championships with a 16.34 (53-07.5) best from 2006, with Zhivko Petkov (Bulgaria) 16.23 (53-03) last year on the way to a silver medal in the World Youth Championships and silver in the European Junior contest. Sherif El-Sherif (Ukraine) was fifth in the 2005 World Youth meet with a 16.30 (53-05.75) personal best from this June.
