Men's Shot Put

        A powerful group of youngsters will battle in this 6 kilogram weight event. A great group is out between 20 and 21 meters for their lifetime bests, with the contest for the three medals certainly a titanic one. Saurabh Vij (India) has thrown 20.35 (66-09.25) during 2006 and 20.20 (66-03.25) during 2005, and he looks ready to take the next big step to something special. Carlos Veliz (Cuba) has improved nicely from last year's 18.96 (62-02.5) best out to 20.32 (66-08), with Mostafa Abdul El-Moaty (Egypt) 20.28 this year with six competitions at 19.66 (64-06) or better through July. JP Hoffman (South Africa) was the 2005 World Youth Champ with the 5 kilo ball, and has continued steady improvement out to challenge at this level, with a 20.14 (66-01) already! Chinese National Junior Champ, Guo Yanxiang 20.09 (65-11) has had countrymen Xu Zhongnan 17.92 (58-09.5) and Wang Like 17.92 (58-09.5) throw with the bigger 16 pound ball. Robert Lobb (Slovakia) 19.93 (65-04.75) also has to be considered in that top group with the victory stand in mind.
