Men's Javelin

        A couple of very successful Greek throwers will battle a talented group here. Yervasios Filippidis (Greece) is the top returnee from the 2004 World Junior Championship meet at fifth place, with a 73.37 (240-08) toss there. He has improved to 79.42 (260-07) in 2006. Teammate Ioannis Smalios (Greece) was the 2005 European Junior Champ at 77.25 (253-05), with a 74.52 (244-06) 2006 best. Ari Mannio (Finland) was sixth in that 2004 World Junior meet, with his 79.68 2006 best (261-05) making him the #11 All-Time World Junior Thrower in this event. Robert Oosthuizen (South Africa) has thrown 79.43 (260-07) this season, marking him as the #15 All-Time Junior in world history.
        Others with the credentials to threaten are Chinese Junior National Champion Li Yu 75.48 (247-08) this season, with 2005 World Youth Champ Noel Meyer (South Africa) 75.19 (246-08) with the bigger implement used at this level this season, and Roman Avramenko (Ukraine), second at the Marrakech World Youth Meet 74.52 (244-06) this year.
