Some weight or facility adjustments
may need to be made if this group continues to power the six kilogram
implement out to the distances that are presently being achieved. The
Europeans control the top end of the lists in this event also. 2005
European Junior Champion, Kirstof Nemeth (Hungary) has thrown 79.98
(262-05) this season, with thirteen competitions over 75.65 (248-02)
in 2005. Yevgeniy Aydamirov (Russia) was runner-up to Nemeth last year
in the Euro meet, but has blasted out to 82.60 (280-10) this season,
with at least four meets over 78.52 (257-07). The third medalist from
that 2005 European Junior meet returns, with Yuriy Shayunov (Bulgaria)
76.55 (251-01) so far in 2006. Anatoliy Pozdnyakov (Russia) was sixth
in the Euro 2005 Junior with a 80.12 (262-10) from 2006, with Marcel
Lominicky (Slovenia) eighth in that meet, with a 76.88 (252-03) from
this year already. Qi Dakai (China) is the National Junior Champ for
the hosts, with a 75.07 (246-03) from that competition.
Others in the field who could
threaten make this a very deep event. Sandor Palhegyi (Hungary) was
the 2005 World Youth Champ with the 5 kilo implement, and has thrown
73.37 (240-08) with the 6 kilo used here this year. Runner-up in that
World Youth Championship last year was Artem Vynnyk (Ukraine), who has
a 74.98 (246-00) 2006 best with the bigger ball. Alex Smith (Great Britain)
had the third farthest World Youth toss in the world last year, with
a 73.81 (242-02) with the hammer used here this season. Jerrid Lipske
(Germany) has a 73.64 (241-07) best from 2006.
