Championships Women's 400 meters Heats First Round First Four in Each Heat Plus the Next Four Fastest Qualify for Semifinals HEAT ONE—Sonita Sutherland of Jamaica the world junior leader at 51.13 cruised the entire was to win easily in 52.99 followed by Janin Lindenberg of Germany at 55.01 and Sofie Persson of Sweden at 55.44 .Heat 1 - Tuesday,
August 15, 2006 - 11:00 HEAT TWO—Jessica Beard of the U.S. and Euclid High in Ohio likes to
run from behind but being in lane eight that was not possible. Still but
the 300 meter point there was Jessica again behind, this time the leader
was Folashade Abugan of Nigeria with a five meter lead. Beard then kicked
it into gear and pulled out the win 53.61 to 53.77. Olha Mayhaylychenko of
Ukraine was third in 55.32 and Desiree Meyer of Germany fourth at 55.47.

2nd Heat 2 HEAT THREE—Sekinat Adesanya of Nigeria, running in lane one, led all the way to win in 53.13. Danijela Grgic of Croatia, running for place, was content to stay in fourth until the final straight where she moved up to finish second in 53.20. Racheal Nachula of Zambia was third in 53.40 and Marie-Angelique Lacordelle of France was fourth, also in 55.40. Women's 400 heat 3 - inside to right Sekinat Adesanya Nigeria
wins heat 3 53.13 HEAT FOUR—Kseniya Zadorina, the Russian junior champion,
dominated the race for the first 300 meters before easing the final 100 to
finish in 53.15. Carlene Muir of Canada closed well over the final 100 to
finish second in 53.25 followed by Ziuyun Wen of China at 53.90 and Marta
Milani of Italy at 55.46.
HEAT FIVE—Nawal El Jack of Sudan, looking much smoother
than she did in winning the World Youth Championship in Morocco last year,
led the entire
way with the fastest time of the first round, 52.49. Brandi Cross of Marshall
High in Missouri City, Texas was out well and finished second at 53.69. Maris
Magi of Estonia and Angeline Blackburn of Australia both ran 54.76 with Magi
