Division I Boys:
Last year’s runner-up in Division I Long Beach Poly should lead
the way. CIF DI runner-up in the 100m (10.87) and 200m (21.54) Derrick
Jones leads the Jackrabbits this year. Rodney Van (49.13 – 400m),
Julian Sylve (1:54 – 800m), and distance super star Ulysis Pena
are also expected to compete for Poly. El Toro’s Brandon Bethke
is coming off of a near perfect cross country season winning both DI CIF
and Orange County titles. Bethke with Mike DeVan will lead the charge
for El Toro. Santa Ana has one of Orange County’s hidden gems in
junior Jesus Ramirez (4:26 – 1600m). Ramirez along with a strong
distance program should do some damage in the distance events. Francisco
Olivas expects to drive Santa Ana’s sprint relays. Cross town rivals
of Santa Ana, Saddleback high will be lead by Sophomore Alex Moreno (51.22
– 400m) and distance runner James Casas. Also competing in DI are
Aliso Niguel, Santa Ana Valley, and Warren.
Division II Boys:
Back to back sweepstakes winners of the Earl Engman Relays Coach John
Eyman brings Cypress back to make a run at a three-peat. Garland West
(5th DII 100m) will be the back bone of Cypress’ success. Look for
Javon Givens in the shuttle huddles, Sophomore 400m runner Justin Parga
(50.94), and distance runner Brain Washburn and, Camden Schweibert to
help push Cypress in their run at another title. Mission Viejo, second
place to Cypress last year returns to the meet with a solid core of athletes.

Peter Gustafsson (1:55.74 – 800m), junior distance runner Ricky
Pena, and Andrew Tucker (11.21 and 22.80). Division II also may see some
of the state’s best distance runners. Woodbridge’s Michael
Haddan (1:50 - 800m), Yucaipa’s Ryan Allen (4:18 and 1:55) and Orange’s
Raul Lara (9:10 and 1:55) should lead to some great distance relays. Mater

will be lead by cross country state finalist and 8th last spring in the

team will round out Division III.
Division I Girls:
Poly, Poly, Poly….Long Beach Poly the preseason #1 ranked team in
the state and looks to be a lock to defend their Earl Engman title. It
is no mistake the Jackrabbits are ranked #1 as they return 10 girls from
last springs CIF DI Finals. Sprinters Shalonda Solomon, Shana Woods, Seqioya
Peggese, Shana Solomon, Jasmine Lee, and middle distance girls Shantae
McKinney and Gabrielle Bournes are expected lead Poly on their championship
run this year. After Long Beach Poly the battle then begins for second.

Pierson (9th place CIF DI), Whitney Hampton (800m), and Leigh Meade. After
a highly successful cross country season Robyn Guggiana and Rebecca Godinez
will now turn their attention to the track for Warren. They will be joined
by Michelle Sanchez (47.13 - 300h). Saddleback is lead by their middle
distance runners Erendira Uriostegui and Savanna Ruiz which both should
be featured in the 4x800. Returning Sea View League Champion in the 100m
and 200m Amber Moore is expected to compete along with sophomore Cassie
Tinyo (1:00.23 – 400m) for Aliso Niguel. The Barons of Fountain
Valley return to the meet with superstar distance runner Crystal Reed.

will be on the tremendous 1-2 punch from cross country Stephanie Torres

Cypress for the title with sprinter Danise Gallon (Sea View League 2nd

(5:12 – 1600m). Mission Viejo looking to challenge for a top spot
in this division will turn to Krisyne Hanberg (4th CIF DII 200m) and Alyssa
Brown (2:19 – 800m). San Jose State bound harrier Erica Sahli (XC
state finalist) of Villa Park is expected to keep the Spartans in the
hunt in both the 4x800 and DMR. Kristen Kovacich (2:14 – 800m) of
Mater Dei will be an impact of the Monarchs. Yucaipa returns last years
San Andreas League Champion Nicole Griffen (58.79 – 400). Mayfair,
Orange, and Westminster will also be battling it out in Division II on
Saturday.

favorite to repeat. Lutheran will be lead by Kelly Rendon (CIF DIV 5th
– 5:23 – 1600m) and Tiffany Pransky (CIF DIV 7th – 400m).
Santa Ana sees Division III action in the girls and will be lead by a
