kick off 2004 campaign
with stellar efforts in Santa Margarita!
Dustin Martinez, Drew Woods, Jayson Hayes,
and Joe Gatel combined to complete
Edison's victory in the 4x800 meter relay, with Gatel blasting a sensational
anchor
carry well below 2:00 that close the door on a state-leading 8:10.31
effort in 2004!
Diamond Ranch High's Jhana Samuels was
the clear winner in a fine girls' 300m low hurdles. clocking
a fine 45.19 in her first invitational of 2004! At phpto at right, high
jumpers Ed Weseloh (left) of
Santa Margarita and Lance Gonzalez of Murrieta Valley each posted lifetime
bests on the apron.
Gonzalez, who also took second in the long jump (20'5"), edged Weseloh
on fewer misses, with both
clearing 6'5". Weseloh also PR'ed in the 110m high hurdles, timing a
wind legal 16.25 in Heat 2.
Edison High of Huntington Beach closed
out the meet in grand fashion with an
excellent 3:28.35 performance in the 4x400-meter relay, with (l-to-r) Drew Woods,
Jace Cimabue, Dustin Martinez and David Taff teaming together for the effort.
Edison led through the first three legs, with anchor runner Martinez relinquishing
the
lead on the first curve of the final lap, only to battle back on the home straightaway!
