Day 3 - Demus' determination + Allmond Joy!
Sunday coverage now updated below!

Lashinda Demus (Ex-Long Beach Wilson/U of South Carolina) proves
determination can conquer adversity, placing third in 400h final!
Tiombe Hurd headlines women's action with American TJ record while
California prep Brittany Daniels places 9th in the final at age 16!
Tony Allmond, one-time St. Paul, Mt. SAC and SoCal Cheetahs star,
lept to the limelight to place second in the LJ on the national stage.

                                              Quotable:
"I busted the ninth hurdle up pretty good. I screamed 'oh, no,' but luckily was still able to maintain my balance and finish it off. I still ran a P.R. and you can't do any better than that. I knew I deserved to be on the team and this feels great."
-- Southland (ex-LB Wilson HS) hurdling hero Lashinda Demus, who rebounded from a late-race setback to keep her composure and make the Olympic Team to Athens!

"I lost my mom. She was murdered in March. I feel like I won because I know my mom was watching over me in heaven. I feel like I defeated so much to get here." -- Triple jumper Vanetta Kinard, explaining her victory in more ways than one.

"This is just the beginning for me. If it doesn't work out in track, I still have plans to go back to the NFL, maybe even this fall. There are three teams talking to my agent right now." -- La Sierra HS alum Tyree Washington, in the 400m

"I brought the 'Spider-Man' suit, but it was too hot to wear today." -- Long jumper Dwight Phillips (also  in the 100 semis), commenting on the heat in Sacramento
  • The Good: A total of 8 Olympic Trials records were extablished today, many centering on the depth of the men's 100m final as four eclipsed the 10-second barrier.
  • The Bad: Reigning Olympic pole vault champion Nick Hysong failed to earn a return spot the the Games, placing 5th.
  • The Ugly: Tim Montgomery, already reeling from suspicions of steroid abuse, finished 7th in the 100m.
