National Level Weight Throw Performances
highlight Diablo Valley College All-Comers

Vacaville area athletes, Buck Sulivan (Unat, Vacaville HS) and Tai Battle (Unat, Wood HS of Vacaville) highlighted the 1/3/04 Diablo Valley College All-Comers Meet with performances in the weight throw event of national signfiicance. Battle recorded what would be the #13 performance nationally among preps for the 2003-2004 year with her 41-06 performance with the Women's 20 pound implement, with Sullivan's 49-09.5 effort with the Men's 25 pound implement worthy of a #20 peformance nationally among high schoolers for the 2003-2004 season. With the weight event usually leading to the hammer as an event outdoors, eleventh grader Sullivan and senior Battle would seem to have a future, with the event a scoring one at the NCAA level on both the Men's and Women's side. Sullivan and Battle had a busy day this past weekend, with Buck taking the Shot Put (40-05) and Discus (133-03), and Battle a 35-03.5 SP effort and fine 130-02 DT, the latter a personal best over last year.

Sullivan was an all-region Footballer this fall as a 5-09 210 pound Center, with participation in wrestling along the way as a high-schooler. He did compete nationally in the Hammer event outdoors last year, with Golden West Invitational and Youth Nationals competition in New York along the way. Buck had a 2003 Outdoor Hammer best with the prep 12 pound implement of 167-09, the #4 mark in the nation among tenth graders.

Battle is currently in the midst of a very successful year in basketball for Wood HS, with membership on the Newark Memorial Tourney All-tournament team after her squad finished second in late December. Tai was 4th in the Sac Joaquin Section Track Meet last May in the Discus at 122-11.

Best of luck to these two fine young athletes as they involve themself in the weight event (and prep shot and discus) that can lead to the championship level in the Hammer at the University and Open level.
