Arroyo High senior Yong-Sung Leal closed out a great career with a third-place finish in the 3200m run, then embraced fellow North Coast Section standout Yosef Ghebray, a James Logan High sophomore who joins Redwood's Jake Schmitt and Arcata's John Figueiredo in inheriting the mantle for future statewide success. All three are sophomores! Yikes!

Los Gatos High senior Nik Kayplaced in both throwing events, winning the disc with another herculean toss (203-3, one inch shy of the meet record) and a 59-4.25 heave in the shot put.

MacKenzie Hill became the latest in a long parade of state champion to be crowned for Long Beach Wilson, joining teammate Ashley Freeman (800m) for title wins. It appears Wilson has now had athletes win individual-event titles a stunning ELEVEN times! (Might even be 12 or 13, as even Coach Terry Kennedy had a little trouble keeping count of all those titles!)

Lionel Larry wonthe 200-meter title, wheeling into high gear coming off the curve to win in 20.97! In the girls pole vault, Aptos senior Kirsten Loftin ccleared a lifetime-best 12-4!

Carson's Kevin McCall is a picture of controlled intensity in helping his team to the 4x100 state title (41.53)! The Colts won by nearly half a second!

Jasmine Lee was just too strong for her rivals, touring the Ceritos College oval in 53.17. Believe it or not, it was the first state individual event girls title in Long Beach Poly history!

Long Beach Poly's Derrick Jones shook aside the effects of injury to rally the Jackrabbits to a meet-ending 3:14.35 victory in the 4x400 relay!
