Boys Div 2
100 - Anton Jamir (Cypress) very tough first 40m, and he was the 10.80 winner with the wind +1.2 mps) over Roy Alugbue (St. John Bosco) 10.96.

200 - Anton Jamir continued to look sharp at this level, racing 21.73 wind legal +1.4 mps) - Alugbue next again at 21.95.

400 - Joe Cowan (St. John Bosco) led slightly through the 200 at 23.4, and was very strong down the homestretch to a 48.01 win.

800 - Michael Haddan (Woodbridge) out at 25.8 - 53.1 at the 400 with James Essex (Beverly Hills) 5m back. Haddan continued to push, 1:22.1 at the 600 with a 1:52.61 finish - Michael did about all the work himself.

1600 - Good early start with 28.9 at the 200. Phillip Reid and Matusak at 60.6 for the 400. 34.5 for that next 200 with Matusak almost tripped as the pack edged up there. 2:07.6 through the 800, with Reid, Maldonado, and Matusak close. Through the 1000 meters it was 2:39.8. 3:11.9 at the 1200 Reid, with Matusak and Torrence close. Reid under 59 for the final lap to the win at 4:10.76 with Matusak 4:11.24 and teammate David Torrence 4:11.52 in third.

3200 - Div IV-II Combined - Craig Hall (Big Bear) lead through a 4:40.3 first 1600, with the pack sitting back about 25 meters. Phillip Reid led the charge as the pack closed in during the fifth lap, with the Rio Mesa star closing with 65 and 60 laps on the way to his win at 9:10.49. Phillip was probably 4:41-4:29 for his 1600 splits with a 2:06 final two laps.

HH- good race with footballer Mike Liti (Foothill, Santa Ana) out to the lead with Justin Johnson (Rio Mesa) edging up and just past at the finish 14.55-14.57. Wind +2.0 mps.

300m IH - Joseph Cowan (St. John Bosco) very solid, consistent race on the way to a 37.92 win.

400 Re - Savanna moved up to challenge Cypress through the end of the second leg, with Mission Viejo close. Savanna held their slight margin to the tape 42.39-42.59 over Cypress. It appeared St. John Bosco never made the final exchange.

1600 Re - 50.9 for St. John Bosco lead-off. 50.7 to continue the lead, now by 20 meters. 51.4 for SJB on leg 3. Cowan closed with 48.4 with St. John Bosco 3:21.39 for the win.

HJ - Tall soph Kenyon Churchwell (Loyola) jumped 6-06 to win over Mattew Carter (El Modena, Orange) at the same height. The gangly Churchwell took three trials at 6-02, but had a first attempt success at 6-06 to take the win.

PV - Matt Contreras and Donald Appanaitis (both of Loyola) were 15-06 for their 1-2 placings. Matt was especially sharp today, passing at 13-00, then over 13-06 on his first attempt, 14-00 on his second, with first successful efforts at 14-06, 15-00, and 15-06, with neither he nor his teammate able to negotiate 16-00.

LJ - Perin Johnson (Claremont) 22-01.25 - 22-01.5 and 22-04 (+1.6) to take the event, with Robert Stevens, La Habra soph a 22-00.75 on his fourth effort for second–Johnson passed his final jump.

TJ - Jonathan Moore (Claremont) was 45-08.75 to lead over Christopher Merriweather (Moorpark) 45-08.25 on his opener. Moore improved to 45-09 on his second effort, Moore 45-11.5 and Raphael McFarland (Mission Viejo) 46-00.5 moving ahead on the third jumps. Merriweather responded and settled the action with his 47-09.25 (+1.6) effort. Moore came back with a 46-07.25 (+1.6) on his final jump.

SP - Chad Smith (University, Irvine) early 55-09.25 to lead early, with Adam Simler (Hemet) a 55-08.25 effort. David Sampson (Cypress) was 55-06.25 also in round one. Smith improved to 56-00.25 on his second throw to take the lead, with Simler to 56-01.75 on his third toss. Smith really unloaded, out to 59-07.25 on is final toss to win over Sampson’s 57-00.75 final effort.

DT - David Sampson (Cypress) 172-04 to take the lead over Chad Smith’s 160-10, with Paul Bradley (Cathedral City) 171-02 on his third toss to challenge and finish in second.

Girls Div 2
100 - Ashlee Brown (North, Riverside) again, here with +1.4 mps of wind behind her to a very strong win at 11.89.

200 - Jeanne Newman (Moorpark) came on strong off of the turn and into the straight to win comfortably at 24.64 (wind +1.6) over Ashlee Pray (Victor Valley) 25.00.

400 - Lili Calhoun (North, Riverside) 25.9 for the first 200, with her teammate Lorraine King closest down the homestretch as she raced to a 56.73 win.

800 - 65.9 Kristin Trichler (San Marcos) at the 400 in a tight pack. 1:40.4 at the 600 with Carolyn Brown (Burroughs) challenging. Good finish for Trichler at 2:13.51 wtih Kristin Kovacich (Mater Dei, SA) 2:14.00.

1600 - another pedestrian start. 41.1 for the first 200. 80.9 first lap. Tia Ferguson, Hawaiian transplant at San Marcos took the lead through a 1:56.8 600 (35.9 that 200), with a 34.9 the next 200 for a 2:31.6 800. Ferguson was 12 meters ahead at this point. 3:44.4 at the 200 with Ferguson a big lead, and she raced in to a 5:01.76 win, tiring a bit the final 150 as Kelsey Delagardelle (Sultana) edged close with a 5:02.61. .

3200 - Div II-IV together Sultana pack led this race thorugh the 1600 at 5:28 - Lauren Magdelano (St. Paul) and Katie Gose (Oak Park) took over the last couple of laps with Magdelano winning on the kick 10:58.51-10:58.75.

HH - North story!! Middle of the track - Ashlee Brown and Domenique Manning close, with Gayle Hunter third. Brown closed well to a 13.76 with +1.6 mps wind–seasonal best, with Manning 14.02 and Hunter 14.47.

300mLH - Ashlee Brown (North) had some curious step problems over a couple of the early hurdles. Lili Calhoun from North eventually moved ahead down the homestretch to win 42.90. Brown did hold on to run 43.56, with North an unprecedented 1-4 sweep with Manning 44.02 and Tanicka Ward 44.44 filling out the 3-4 spots!!

400 Re - North Riverside the entire way - 46.74 win to Claremont’s second 48.96.

1600 Re - North (Riv) 58.0 opener to take the lead and they were pulling away further by the first part of the second leg, which went by at 55.3 (and had them leading by 40 meters at the second exchange). Domenique Manning ran 59.7 on leg 3, with 58.0 on the anchor with the time 3:51.18.

HJ - Orlisha Henlon (King, Riverside), clear through 5-04, won there on misses over Artemis Sotiroupaus (Sunny Hills).

PV - Elizabeth Woepse (Matger Dei) started at 10-06 and took two vaults to get over 12-00 which won this division for her. She could not clear 12-06 this evening, which had gotten quite late before the highest vaults were attempted. Whitney Johnson (Mission Viejo) was second at 11-06.

LJ -Gayle Hunter (King, Riverside) was 19-08.25 (+2.0) on her opening jump to win by a foot over Michelle Sanford (Woodbridge, Irvine) 18-11.25 (+1.5).

TJ - Michelle Sanford (Woodbridge) opened up at 39-05.75, with Gayle Hunter (North) taking the lead on the next jump at 40-03.25 (+2.0). Sanford was 40-06 on her second try to take the lead, with Hunter two fouls. Sanford was 41-06.75 (+1.0) and a pass, with Hunter 39-05.75 on her final jump.

SP - Priscilla Gardner (Mission Viejo) good series, with a 41-10.75 - 40-03.5 - 41-11 and 40-10.25. Shannon Hobson, Perris basketball star, improved to 41-07.75 on her final toss to move into second.

DT - Priscilla Gardner (Mission Viejo) a double weight winner, here 149-03 opening toss, with Shannon Hobson of Perris 134-0, 136-06, and 145-03, the latter good for second place.
