Kelly McCann (La Costa Canyon) 800 winner

Event 319 Girls 800 Meter Run Invitational High School

Kristen Kovacich the early leader here with the pack through the 400 at 64.5. After that point State leader, Kelly McCann (2:10.45 at Arcadia) took the lead down the backstretch, but it was fellow San Diegan Dani Schuster who made a huge move with 300 to go who moved past all into the lead into the final turn. McCann, who has raced 55.9 for a 400 in a dual meet, tough speed when carried up a lap over the 800 distance, eventually moved up and past Schuster for a good win 2:12.51-2:12.99.

Event 323 Girls 300 Meter Hurdles Invitational High School

An interesting event, with super talent, frosh Shana Woods (LB Poly) capable of something really, really fast when she puts it all together here. Through the movie camera after the race (where these photos were downloaded from), she shows a great deal of adjusting during the approach to nearly all the later hurdles, but has enough athletic ability to always pull her step pattern off! Again, with a smooth pattern all the way around later in the year, look out!!!

Even at Hurdle 3 in the Girls Invite 300mLH - at 200m Shana Woods (2nd from the left) is close to the lead!! -
