Where will Aaron Tombleson (above) fit in with the Woodland HS weight
tradition (see folks below) before his career at the Sac Joaquin school
is over?? (Chuck Bruns photo)
On a very cold and cloudy Wednesday afternoon at Elk Grove High School
junior Aaron Tombleson of Woodland High School opened his season with
a
54'11 1/2" shot put and 152'7" Discus effort. The meet between
Woodland and
Elk Grove was a non-scored practice dual. Tombleson has measured several
57+
efforts on the 12lb ball in practice and promises to eclipse the school
and
meet record at the upcoming Woodland Invitational on Saturday, March 15.
The
current record is held by 2000 graduate John
Newell with a 58"3 1/2 effort
who copmeted in the 2000 state meet and now competes in the weight events
for University of Georgia. Other recent grads of Woodland High School
who
have competed at the top level in the state include
Jill Camarena (50'11 /
161), Katie
McKeever (45'4" /162'3") and Maureen
Pacheco (44'5' /136'10")
