McGrath-Chapa scorcher - Lincoln OR sr Mike McGrath and Grant Portland OR sr Joaquin Chapa produced the fastest mile of the season, with McGrath pulling away ever so slightly in the last 200 meters to win, 4:10.8 to 4:12.4, with negative splits (2:07 and 2:04/2:05). They both surpassed N. Forsyth NC Bobby Mack, whose 4:13.73c at Virginia Tech Saturday was briefly the US#1 boys mile. Another US#1 mark came from the UW meet when Puyallup WA sr Adam Demmings won the 800 in 1:54.0. Stadium Tacoma WA sr Darren Woods, who is US#1 in the 400 (48.02) ran the 300 this week in 34.19, US#2 behind Reggie Witherspoon's 33.31 at Virginia Tech. Seattle Academy WA sr Audrea Nolan 11-6 PV.
