OUTDOOR is
upon us, even as the last cross
country meet, the World Cross, takes
place in Ireland. Our first DyeStat On-Site outdoor meet of
the season comes in New Orleans -- the Nokia Sugar Bowl
Classic, from Tad Gormley Stadium. That starts the cycle
that ends with the adidas Outdoor Championships in Raleigh
and the USA Junior Nationals at Stanford in June (see DyeStat
Featured Meets at the bottom of this page). We will post
DyeStat Elite cutoffs
this week for national rankings for the 2002 outdoor season.

Half of the US junior
teams are high school stars. Can they match Dathan Ritzenhein's
stunning 3rd last year? Maybe not, but the preps are
well represented with four boys and two girls, led by
Foot Locker cross country champion Tim Moore,
who is #1 on the US junior men's team after his win
in the US Winter Nationals last month.

the Odlaug
diary - the Odlaugs of Illinois are
an international family and they are keeping a diary of
the World Cross for DyeStat. Daughter Erika, who gained
international experience last summer in the US-United
Kingdom dual matches, is on the US junior women's team,
and dad Theron is arriving in Dublin on an around-the-world
trip via the home office in Japan of his employer.
From the diary: Erika is already in her pre-race
"zone" when she leaves Chicago - a "meat
wagon" flight on Aer Lingus - no room at the inn
- Erika name drops Dathan, Jorge, and Suzy - Friday in
Dublin: those intimidating African women - Erika checks
out the course - Proud of "our girl" - the day
after, still thrilling; next year: Lausanne. |
Bento
Leal's report - Yong-Sung Leal of San
Lorenzo CA was the only high school junior on the USA
junior men's team at Dublin. After the race, his father,
Bento Leal, called. |
