New York Sections
Molly Huddle 4:29.60, improving on her season best 1500m, and 9:39.50 3000m in Section 4.

Noteworthy Notes

  • Two preps ran well in the Boston High Performance series last weekend: Vermont sr Mint Henk 8:24.52 3000m US#3 and Peru NY soph Josh McDougal 8:26.48 US#5.
  • Two big runs by Laura Zeigle -- 4:25.24 US#1 1500 and record 16:29.83 5k! -- 6/1 Harry Jerome Classic, Burnaby BC: Zeigle won the 1500 meters. Twin sister Jackie ran a 10k in 35:46.94. Both were prepping for the Golden West and USA Junior Nationals. 5/18 Jim Bush Twilight Classic, Whittier CA: Bingham UT senior Laura Zeigle shatters Alison Tubbs' 1-year-old record for 17-year-olds (16:44.81) by 15 seconds. It was the fourth best HS mark ever behind the likes of Cathy Schiro 1985, Mary Shea 1979, and Erin Keogh 1986. Laura had 1600 meters splits of 5:16, 5:20, and 5:15, leaving 38 seconds for the last 200 meters. Jackie Zeigle ran 10:42 through 3200 meters, only 6 seconds behind Laura, but slowed in the last mile to finish third in 17:02.04. Laura and Jackie are signed by Colorado University.
  • Another future Buffalo, Erika Odlaug, joins several top runners on the sidelines. With her foot still sore since running for the USA junior team in the World Cross Country championships in March, the Deerfield IL senior has cancelled plans to run at AOC Raleigh and Junior Nationals and will cross train before heading for Boulder. Despite the foot, Odlaug just won the Illinois state 2A 3200 title in a very good time of 10:35.13.
  • Those fast, lanky, and brainy Bronxville NY girls won the 4x800 in 8:57.4 US#3 at the Warwick NY Fast Times meet. The numbers: Kate Ogorzaly 2:18.4, Michelle Rorke 2:14.6, Caroline Mullen 2:15.7, and Catha Mullen 2:08.9 -- and average SAT scores of 1500.
  • Elmira NY sr Molly Huddle improved on her US#1 times by winning the 1500 in 4:30.6 and the 3000 in 9:33.4 at the Class C district at Binghamton NY.

Alan Webb's 4th at NCAA championships fuels rumors "It's the end of an incredibly terrible year," Webb told the Washington Post. Rumors have been running rampant lately that the high school mile record holder would leave college and turn pro under his high school coach, Scott Raczko. If he did, the NCAA 1500 would be his last college race for Michigan. "It might be," Webb said. "We'll see. I'll have to decide wherever is the best place for me to be."
