Foot Locker Finals returning to San Diego?
There have been rumors lately that that this is true, and for a few days the Foot Locker Cross Country web page had a link for "Nationals" that said: "December 14, 2002, Balboa Park, San Diego, California." That link has been removed, leaving just the date and no location. A Foot Locker announcement on the situation is expected soon.
When this meet was called the Kinney Cross Country Championships, it was held at San Diego. Foot Locker took over Kinney Shoes and renamed the meet in 1993. It has been run at Disney World in Orlando FL since 1997.

Youth Athletics National Championships
July 3-7 at Miami FL - USATF says more than 2,000 athletes will be on hand for the 2002 USA TF Youth Athletics National Championships at Tropical Park Stadium. Link for results

PA shot putter killed in drive by shooting
Glen Mills PA grad Omain Gullette was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting near his home in southwest Philadelphia. Gullette had been the student government president this year. He was an All-State football player who was headed to Syracuse University on a full scholarship. In track, he was a DyeStat Elite shot putter, 2nd in the 2001 Pennsylvania state meet (57-9.5) and 3rd at the 2002 Pennsylvania indoor state meet. (from www.penntrackxc.com)

USA's World Junior Team
HS athletes claimed 34 of 66 slots on Team USA as announced 6/28 by USATF, based on performances at the USA Junior Nationals at Berkeley and Palo Alto CA last weekend. Team USA will represent the United States at the IAAF World Junior Championships in Kingston Jamaica July 16-21

Alan Webb turns pro!
Track writer Chris Lear reports on the Runner's World web site that high school mile record holder Alan Webb will not return to the University of Michigan for his sophomore year and will instead turn pro with Flynn Sports Management as agent. Lear, who has been monitoring the Michigan scene for a new book, quotes Michigan Coach Ron Warhurst and miler Paul McMullen, who trains with Warhurst and is also a Flynn client. Lear also said that Webb has withdrawn from the USA Junior Nationals at Stanford this weekend. Lear said that Webb will enroll at George Mason University near his Northern Virginia home and will be coached by his South Lakes HS coach, Scott Raczko. "I really feel the way I'm going to get better is to work with Scotty. He's definitely the guy for me. I'm excited," Webb is quoted as saying in the article.
