Lauren Saylor races along at last weekend's Stanford Invitational

Having accomplished so much already during her high school running career, Lauren Saylor is charging into her senior year in great style, leading another super Buchanan HS squad that is aiming at some big-time honors in addition to the individual honors assuredly brought home by the team leading twelfth grader.  She is back over 3200m in track at 10:37.02, and is looking for big-time championship efforts at the Section at State level this fall on her home Woodward Park harrier course, with hoped for individual and team action post-state meet at the Nike Team Nationals and Foot Locker Individual affair!!

She raced a super 16:35 at the Woodbridge Invite in mid-September to equal the old course record by eventual Olympian Lauren Fleshman in finishing second to Christine Babcock's 16:31 effort, then was second this past weekend at Stanford, racing 17:27 behind famed Marie Lawrence (Reno, Nevada).  She's at home this weekend for the Clovis Invite and there should be some special results there.

Congrats and best of luck!!!

1) Briefly trace your Invitational efforts this season and how they have gone for you--

I've only had a couple races so far-Woodbridge and Stanford- and I'm very happy with both races. I'm feeling a lot stronger and in much better shape than last year and hopefully I'll continue to feel good!

2) How do you approach your training and racing any differently as a senior than in your earlier high school seasons?

Senior year is different just because it's my last time racing at the big Invites such as Woodbridge, Mt. SAC, Clovis, Stanford so going into every race my goal is to be happy with how I raced and to leave it all out. Training wise i did more cross training and core work throughout the summer and it's definitely paying off.

3) What big races do you have coming up?

The next big race is Clovis then Mt.SAC.

4) Briefly describe what has become your favorite cross-country workout that you think does the best at preparing you for good racing--

Once a week we do fartleks and we have specific groups we always run with. I love the group i run with because we're always pushing each other really hard at the end and i definitely think that's why i'm feeling so much stronger at the end of my races.
