Chloe Allen (rt) joins a talented lead pack with Chelsea Reillly (middle-Davis
HS)
and Rebecca Hbtamu (Roseville) at the Granite Bay Invite
It is a special year for young stars statewide, with Chloe
Allen (Clovis West, Fresno), another soccer buff who discovered she could
really fun, a sophomore moving up in the ranks!! After an injury problem
she explains below at the start of her frosh cross-country season last year,
she came back the last couple of weeks of the season to place 45th in the
Central Section finals at 21:36. In track she was third in the Section
in the 1600 with a 5:16.52 best recorded in the State Prelims. She
is off to a fine start this sophomore fall with pushing a talented lead pack
on the way to a third in the Granite Bay Invitational
in the Sac Joaquin Section
and
a "best
time of day"
in her Kingsburg Invite soph two mile win at 11:53 a week back. Chloe
took some time out of the hectic start to the school year to answer some
questions for us before she heads out after another strong race, with her
team scheduled to compete in the James Campbell Invitational this weekend
in Hawaii!!
Best of Luck and thanks for the answers Chloe!

1) How has the start of the season
gone for you at Granite Bay and Kingsburg?
Granite Bay was a very slow course with a lot of hills, turns, and rocks.
I started out going pretty fast keeping up with Chelsea (Reilly), but I was
a little tired going throught the hills a second time. That course taught
me
to pace
myself. Kingsburg was a fun course, I had my friends Sue Choi and Cathryn
Saylor, whenever I run with them, they push me and we push each other to
our limits.
2) Describe the Kingsburg course and how the race developed in your win
there?
The Kingsburg course was a very flat race and we went around the high school
for two miles. In the first mile Sue, Cathryn, and kept together, and then
in the second mile Sue and I were neck and neck until the last 200 meters.
3) How was it to train in the summer in the Fresno weather and how much
running did you do each day this summer?
This summer our cross country team trained at 6 in the morning Monday through
Thursday, the heat was not bad at all because of the time of the day. Our
coach, Barbara Bethel, went through the summer training with us and explained
why we were doing each work out. She also ran with us each day. I would run
on my weekends. I trained this summer at the Echo cross country camp.
4) How did you do last year in cross-country and track and what are some
of your goals for this year?
Before last year I had never ran cross country before and I was only
doing it to prepare for soccer. Last cross country season I trained in the
summer,
however three days before school started I broke the growth plate along the
fibula on my left ankle playing soccer with my club soccer team. I recovered
in 2 months and was able to run in the last 2 weeks and a half last year.
Last year at track I went to state for the mile and got 5:16. I will continue
to train for the mile and over time hopefully it improves. I want to have
under 18 minute in a 5 k. This is practically my first year of running and
I am still learning how to run.
5) What sports did you do while you were growing up?
My family is a huge soccer family, so my life revolved around soccer.
6) What are some of your interests besides running and goals after high
school?
I do a lot of soccer and I hope to attend a Division I school based on running
and academics.
