Two-time defending state 400m
champion
will move into LB attendance district, we are told.
Kirby Lee is reporting in this weekend's Long Beach Press-Telegram that
two-time state 400m champion Sa'de Williams of Rancho Cucamonga HS will
be transferring to Long Beach Poly for her senior year in the Fall.
When contacted regarding the article, Lee said two different sources
confirmed the news, including an administrator at Long Beach Poly.
The addition of Williams,
who owns personal bests of 52.35 for 400m and 23.39 for 200m, would
give LB Poly three of the four fastest returnees in the state at 400
meters. LB Poly owns the national
4x400-meter record, a 3:35.49 achieved at the California state championships
in 2004.
Word of a pending
transfer has been mentioned on more than one occasion for nearly half
a year, but no relocation resulted resulted before the track and field
season. Williams' lifetime best of 52.35 in the one-lap sprint came
in her sophomore year under Coach Carlton Austin, who left the school
during the winter of Williams' junior year.
According to
Lee, Williams will move into the Long Beach attendance district and
it is is expected she will have immediate eligibility. -- Rich
