Cross-Country State Meet Berths
Are Updated For 2006 XC Season!

L.A. City Section is adding divisional representation while
other sections undergo changes due to recent showings

DyeStatCal has learned that the Los Angeles City Section will be picking up an additional berth to the CIF-State Cross-Country Championships meet beginning in the Fall of 2006. Previously, the L.A. City Section received two berths from Division I only.
The massive population growth and the sprouting up of a number of new schools within the area means that several of these new schools will have far lower (but growing) enrollments than those currently in place within the section. As a result, a new berth will be granted to the Los Angeles City section in either Division II, III, IV or V. The actual division will not be known until the LA City Section Championships on November 18th.. It appears there will be a "Small Schools" championship at the L.A. City meet, with the winner from that race then advancing to state in their appropriate enrollment divison.
Additionally, there will be some changes in sectional representation to the state meet in 2006, based on recent performances from the sections at the last three championships. Such formula is used to divide up the berths among the 10 CIF sections within the state.
There are no changes slated for these 6 of the 10 divisions: Boys D1, D3 and D4 and Girls D1, D2 and D3.
There are changes in the remaining four divisions, as follows:
Division II Boys -- The Central Section gains a team spot that is lost by the North Coast Section.
Division V Boys -- The Central Section gains a team spot that is lost by the Northern Section.
Division IV Girls -- The Central Coast Section gains a team spot that is lost by the North Coast Section.
Division V Girls -- The Northern Section gains a team spot that is lost by the San Diego Section.
