What has the super "soon to be tenth grader" from Mission College Prep in San Luis Obispo, Jordan Hasay, been up to this summer?  After having achieved all that could appear to be possible as a first year prep athlete in 2005-2006, with successes that stretched from a National prep harrier championship in December to a National Junior (under age 20) 3000m title in June in Indianapolis, all are obviously looking ahead to what can be expected from the state's lastest 'wunder-kid' this fall and in future years.  Under the careful guidance of Coach Armando Siqueiros it appears the mileage meter on training has been upped slightly during the last few months "away from competition" time, with the variety of activities (swimming and biking) that have seemed to develop Jordan so nicely still a part of the regimen.  Best of all she seems to be in continued good health, and it should be a fun fall!!

Below was contained within the Santa Barbara Athletic Association notes by Kevin Young from late this summer, with the McConnell's run referred to below a popular late August 5k race in the area that Jordan has run in previous years:

JORDAN HASAY UPDATE - Jordan responds to a question how her training is going:
Hi Kevin -
When I arrived back from Junior Nationals the end of June, I spent two weeks of running easy. Since that time I've increased my training intensity and mileage. My training routine includes about 60 miles per week including a tempo run, a long run, hill repeats, and easy running. We're introducing some new runs and methods this year such as a 10 mile run once a week, and wearing a heart rate monitor for my tempo runs. I'm still swimming also. I like to swim one to three miles a day five days a week. Then twice a week I take easy bicycle rides of 7 miles. Finally I weight train with my dad twice a week. Coach Mando has some good plans for me this season. Right now I'm just focusing on adapting to the mileage and staying heathly. I would like to thank you personally and the entire Santa Barbara community for your support. Running in Santa Barbara has always been special and fun and everyone has always been so nice. Unfortunately, this year I will be unable to make the Mcconnells run. There is a long season ahead of me which I must prepare for. If all goes well I'll still be running XC in February. I hope you understand. Thanks again Kevin for all your support!
Jordan
