OAKLAND – The California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will host a Steroids and Athletic Stimulants Summit, presented by 24 Hour Fitness, on Tuesday, October 12, 2004. Media are invited and encouraged to attend.

Attendees at the summit, which runs from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Los Angeles Airport Marriott, will include the state’s top law enforcement and K-12 education policy and decision makers. Also invited are representatives of the California Department of Education, the State Secretary of Education and the Governor’s Office.

Speakers will include:
Scott Burns, Deputy Director White House, Office of National Drug Policy
State Senator Jackie Speier, author of legislation pertaining to high school steroid use and supplements
Richard Young, legal expert working with the USADA, USOC and WADA
Dr. Don Catlin and Dr. Gary Green, UCLA Olympic Drug Testing Lab
Michelle Leonhart, Deputy Administrator, DEA
Don Hooten, Parent who has appeared on 60 Minutes
Marie Ishida, CIF Executive Director
Other authorities from the DEA, FDA and USA Track & Field

Registered attendees to this “by invitation only” event will receive DEA booklets, CIF bulletins, Student Codes of Conduct and information from 24 Hour Fitness.
