Wilson High School The Wilson High School (Long Beach) cross country program will present the First Annual Jim Arquilla 5K Run (jog, walk) at Wilson High School on Saturday, August 23 at 8:00 A.M. The run will begin and end on the WHS track with the 5K course winding in and around the school campus. The community is invited to attend and participate.T-shirts to all participants will be included. Jim Arquilla was the boy’s cross country and track & field distance coach since1986. He passed away from melanoma cancer on May 15, 2003. He fought for close to a year after the disease’s resurgence a year ago in May. One of his wishes was to be able to assist a deserving runner, both boy and girl, from Wilson who benefited from running the distances races while in high school. The initial winners were 2003 seniors Vanessa Cruz (Dartmouth College) and Giovanni Loza (Cal.State Fullerton.) For t-shirt and supply consideration please e-mail or call in your entry to Ed Hauck, girls cross country coach at Wilson HS: 562-421-5860 or [email protected].
