Foot Locker West Regionals

Those coveted "front line" positions for the Seeded Boys Race are now filled up!

2002 Foot Locker West Region

Boys Seeded Race Start Positions

Central Catholic junior Galen Rupp stunned national observers in defeating Klamath Union's Lauren Jespersen at the Oregon State Championships, but the KU star avenged the setback with his own head-to-head triumph at the Nike Border Clash shortly thereafter. These two stars have rekindled a distance frenzy within the state and now bring their running talents to Foot Locker West, with berths to nationals in mind! (photo courtesy of Josh Rowe.)

* The top 80 rated runners in the SEEDED RACE will be right on the starting line: 30 in the center box and 25 on each side box. All remaining runners will be on the second line, a few feet back (to help ease congestion).

* The first 10 returnees from last year’s regional automatically are in the center box, assigned bib numbers 1 through 10 based upon their placing order from last year. The rest of the runners listed below will have bib numbers assigned randomly, not the numbers that are listed below.

* These positions are tentative, based on results obtained by meet management. We welcome any input. If you provide input, please include supporting data. Please offer more information than merely stating "this athlete set five course records this year." Please realize that most of the athletes in the top 30 list have set a slew of course records this year. To better help the athlete, please list which athletes listed in the top 30 below he has beaten this year, with supporting data.

* State champions are not automatically granted a spot in the top 30. Why? Because there are usually more than 30 state champions in the West Region (12 states plus the U.S. Military Territories, with many states having multiple state champions in their many divisions). As it is, nearly 20 state champions have yet to register (some are walk-up registration during packet pick-up) and we already have 31 registered.

* Please send all comments and suggestions (with supporting data on your views) on these start-line seeds to [email protected]

* Start lists will be updated nightly. Last boys revision was done on Wednesday, December 4, at 9:45 p.m. PST

It's a Who's Who parade of talent as Michael Haddan (#1893) leads a sprint to the finish at the California state championships, with Arroyo's Yong-Sung Leal, Rubidoux's Antonio Jimenez, Cypress' David Napper and Mar Vista's Troy Swier in full throttle pursuit! Haddan is the reigning CA 800-meter champion (1:51.02), with Leal sparkling for the U.S. team at the World Junior XC Championships in Ireland last March! (Photo by Rich Gonzalez)
