Central Coast Section Preview - Meet 11/16/02 - Toro Park
Thanks to Walt Van Zant for his super preview

Boys Division I
A tremendous race is setting up here with Serra (San Mateo), led by projected winner Dominic Vogl, Salinas, and Bellarmine Prep (San Jose) close with this one of those affairs won back between places 25 and 50 with the runners in the second half of team's top five scorers. It appears that those who work in the chute will earn their keep in this contest, with runners pouring in in the mid 16 minute range. Thanks to Walt Van Zant for his great work, with the eventual fall-out on the course fascinating to see how it comes out compared to predicted!

Boys Division II
Another super competitive contest, with three teams, Carlmont (Belmont), Gunn (Palo Alto), and Leland (San Jose) picked to come out within a couple of points. Predicted runner-up Kyle Shackleton (Carlmont) and Andrew Lipkin (Gunn) head teams that appear to gap at a bit over two minutes for the top five, with Leland at a minute and the first four in before anyone else's on the prediction sheet. Jeremy Mineau (Menlo Atherton) tough out front here!! Another we'd love to see take place!

Boys Division III
North Monterey County (Castroville) is very highly ranked statewide, with six underclass on the varsity and more coming up from the other teams to challenge for a State Title this year and become the favorite for next. Alex Dunn is one of the top ranked statewide at this level for San Lorenzo Valley (Felton), with soph Keli Parker (No Monterey County) and St Francis's young duo of frosh Ben Sitler and junior Kevin Chavez leading the State's #10 Ranked Div III squad. If North Monterey County slips at all, St. Francis can challenge!

Boys Division IV
King City and Carmel will carry their season-long battles into the Section competition here, with Mr. Van Zant predicting the teams going 36 King City and 37 Carmel for scoring in the Finals! Wow!! Junior Patrick Parsel (Carmel) is the predicted Section Champ at this level, with the great team contest starting shortly after. King City is predicted to have five in before Carmel's fifth, with Carmel's #5 given the same predicted time in the finals as King City's #6, but the higher place. Taking the results in a straight dual off Walt Van Zant's predictions it would be Carmel 1-4-5-7-11=28 and King City 2-3-6-8-9=27. It does not get any better or closer.

Boys Division V
Jack Welch (Redwood Christian) is the predicted winner, with his team scheduled to finish its top four before the York (Monterey) team of predicted runner-up Mathias Hugentobler for a comfortable win.

Girls Division I
Super trackster Casey Nevitt (Aptos) is scheduled to win comfortably, with Marie Nguyen and Erinn Kim scheduled to start a solid 1-4 flood of Milpitas runners that is predicted to finish a tad ahead of Casey's team. The narrow win of Milpitas is projected off Milpitas runners going 1-4 ahead of Aptos' #2 runner Annie Adams, with the Aptos group predicted to take the next four team places between the two favorites before Milpitas's #5 runner. The Milpitas team will be looking for a good effort from numbers four thru seven here. Another team contest that should be fun!!

Girls Division II
Ruth Graham and Tori Tyler are predicted to race out ahead of the pack and go 1-2 here for Gunn (Palo Alto). Graham is one of the nation's top runners, and could race away to the best time of the day in this competition overall, with the squad ranked among the top half dozen in the state. Los Gatos is a solid second, with ????? missing lately, and her presence shoring up solidly LG's chances.

Girls Division III
Great division with about all the State's top ranked girls in this section! Michelle Gallagher (Sacred Heart Cathedral, San Francisco) has emerged strongest lately over league rivals Melissa Grelli (Presentation) and Ciara Viehweg (St. Ignatius, San Francisco), with this the deepest division in the Section. San Lorenzo Valley (Felton) is the top-ranked Division III squad statewide, with Coach Rob Collins another great squad, favored by a bit over St. Ignatius (San Francisco). This could be one of the best divisional races in section history.

Girls Division IV
Evelyn Wing (Valley Christian) is the big individual favorite here, with Half Moon Bay the comfortable favorite, with the squad predicted to have its first scoring five within the top twelve finishers overall!

Girls Division V
Castilleja is favored powerfully here, with Alana Levinson leading a squad ranked among the top ten statewide that is predicted to have its five scorers within the top ten places overall.
