DyeStatCal Athlete of the Week – Manuel Ruiz (Monroe, LA City Section) One of the pleasant surprises this Fall has been the running of Manual Ruiz (Monroe, LA City Section), who capped his season through late October with a 4th place 14:50 effort on the Mt. SAC layout in the Invitational there in the Individual Sweepstakes race. He was 17th at last year's State CC Meet Division I at 16:07 at Woodward Park in the rain, and ran 9:13.77 for 3200m in placing 9th in the State Track Meet in the spring, and is the #8 returnee in the State over 8 laps in Track season. He has emerged as one of the top LA City runners in recent years, with some talk of his ability in the next couple of weeks in taking down the Pierce College record in the Section competition there in the low 14:40's. We will hope for some good weather as this talented senior goes after the all-time best there and hopes to place high in the State Meet later this month.
