Asmeron named Athlete of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS – Bolota Asmeron has been named USATF’s Athlete of the Week
following his second-place finish at the 2002 North American 5K
Championships Sunday at Chula Vista, Calif. The championships were held in
conjunction with the 14th annual Arturo Barrios Invitational 5K & 10K.

Asmeron, who placed fourth in the 5,000 meters at the 2002 USA Outdoor
Championships (13:32.88) led Team USA to a second-place finish behind Mexico
by completing the course in 13 minutes, 54 seconds. Other U.S. finishers
included Clint Wells, who was fourth in 14:01, and Henry Dennis (6th-14:19).

Sylvia Mosqueda was the top American woman at Chula Vista with her
fourth-place finish in 15:38
. Libbie Hickman was sixth in 15:49 and Colleen
De Reuck was seventh in 15:57.

Now in its second year, USATF’s Athlete of the Week program is designed to
recognize performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree
each week and features the athlete on the USATF Web site. Selections are
based on top performances and results from the previous week.
