a funny story about OC champs:

Early last week I was talking to William Feliciano about attending the OC champs......so he could get to see his old high school's new running star Dave Napper (Cypress). He said he'd like to check it out......and later when I was looking on the web to find details of the meet I found out that William had the OC champs course record. Well, after getting on his case for not mentioning it we finally got to the meet early Saturday morning.
We decided to jog the course and 'jog' his memory of his record race. I kept on joking with him "so where did you cut the course to get such a fast time?" He told me, the fact is he was right behind the leader most of the race but at the uphill just after two miles he took over the race. The fast early pace had set the tone for the race and resulted in the record time. He asked who were the favorites and I told him besides Napper, there were Haddan from Woodbridge, Robles from Valencia and Chavez from Esperanza. When the race started I joked with him and kept on saying his record was probably going to go today and he said that he would make sure that if it was close that he would be around to make sure no one tripped. Michael Haddan went out fast and looked great winning in 14:37 to eclipse the 18 year old record of William's. When I saw Michael I asked if I could take a picture of him for DyeStatCal. He said sure, and then I asked if he would mind if I took a shot with my friend William, and then mentioned that he was the 'old' OC champs record holder. They talked for a little bit and then I thanked him. As I was walking away William said that he was glad that it was somebody like Michael that had broken his record.
