The 11th annual Blue Lagoon Invitational has the ingredients of being a
highly competitive and fast event. Four top ten girls teams and three boys
teams from the DyeStatCal newly released Southern Section rankings will be
at the starting line. Add Central Section power Centennial of Bakersfield
to the mix for a top quality early season test for all teams involved.

Fillmore, off a very impressive performance at the Ojai Rotary West
Invitational last week at Lake Casitas in Ventura County lead the boys
entries. Juan Mejia will head the Fillmore attack after a fine 4th place
showing at Ojai. Mejia was 2nd in last years Lagoon race with a fast 16:15
clocking. Ventura county rival Nordhoff and Lompoc, 4th in the Lake Casitas
team race, should provide competition for the Flashes.

Centennial dominated the 2001 Lagoon race, putting four runners in the top
ten finishers. The Centennial ringleader was Brittany Grimes, blazing an
18:20 for 2nd place in the race. Alexandra Forrest of Dos Pueblos could
challenge Grimes after taking 2nd at Ojai last week in 19:28 on the hilly
course. Southern Section powers Ventura (#5 division II) and Lompoc (#7
division III) should challenge for team honors.
