A torried competitor who always comes to run is this week's DyeStatCal female Prep Athlete of the Week. She is an eleventh grader at Murrieta Valley HS and has started off a great 2002 Fall season with a big Course Record run of 17:57, destroying the 18:48 she ran last year - good indicator!!! A Foot Locker National Finalist as a ninth grader two years back, Liza looks ready to move back to the level where she was considered at the absolute top of her grade group at the prep level this eleventh grade season.

We caught up with Liza at the Bronco Meet, where when asked about her race, she replied, "I was happy to run as fast as I did and break my old course record." When asked about how her trainign was going at the start of the school year, she added, "It has been hectic, I have two AP courses this year, and it really keeps me busy." With the determination with which she tore around the Prado Dam course, leaving the field behind early on the way to her nearly 50 second victory, one senses things are going nicely! When asked about things down the road for college (close or far away to home), "I am kind of open to a college, but do not think I want to venture too far away from where I live." Bubbly and charming through the good times and not so good ones, Liza is a great personal publicist for our activity of running--her squad is performing at an impressive level this Fall, and with such a leader by example, look for Liza and the crew to do some serious damage out on the courses this Fall and in coming seasons!!

Best of Luck - Doug Speck - DyeStatCal
