Oscar and Miguel Uribe - tough twin duo from Grace Davis in Modesto -

Oscar and Miguel Uribe (G Davis HS, Modesto) are a great twin combo this season on the harrier courses out of the Sac Joaquin section. What is it like to have a twin on the team with you who races with you each weekend, and is right beside you in workouts? It might be interesting - we asked them some questions through Coach John Souza, and their answers below provide some interesting insight into the world of twins and running!!! As Coach Souza says, "these are two twins that are hard to break up!"

1) Briefly, what is it like to have a twin racing for the same team as yourself?

It is great having a brother on the team because we can push eachother through hard workouts literally. We go back and forth in cross country and track and it seems like we just keep pulling eachother up in practice and in races.

2) What sports did you do while you were growing up (the same different, was one better than the other at some and not others)?

We played football, basketball, baseball, soccer, and ran track in junior high as well. We were both equal in ability in all sports.

3) Any brothers or sisters (in sports?)

Our little brother plays basketball. We were assistant coaches on his team.

4) Do you consider your competition between each other something that helps you to do better in your running?

Definitely. It brings out the best in both of us to strive to do our best that day. We train together every day of the week (and we do the same types of things on rest days--play basketball, video games, watch sports). When one of us feels tired or drained the other says let's go. Usually it's me (Oscar speaking--saying let's go).

5) Any interesting "mix-up" stories due to the twin situation?

Everyone has a difficult time telling us apart. Once we switched places in class in the third grade, but were discovered by friends when they called us by our real names in class.

6) Plans after high school (to attend same school or go separate ways)?

We plan to attend the same school. We are not sure where, but talk about it every day.

7) Any relatives (parents, etc.) involved in sports?

We have cousins in Mexico that run. One of our cousins is a hurdler for a university in Guadalajara and is representing the Mexican national team.

8) Goals for the season as individuals and teams--

We want to win section as a team. Our high school has had only one section championship in any sport and that was last year in track. We and our team really want to do it in Cross Country at Rocklin. We also want to perform well as a team at state. Our goal--Top 3 in DI. We know it will be a tough task but we are going to put in the work and see where it takes us.

Best of Luck this season and in the future
