Ciara Viehweb (St. Ignatius, San Francisco) - we asked Ciara if she would write up a short summary about her Ed Sias Invitational run (another win), which she does below for us: DyeStatCal Athlete of the week adds another award to the trophy case this past weekend!! Interesting to hear the perspective of the winner sometimes "I had never run the Ed Sias race before, but I have to say the
course was much tougher than I expected. Coach Gustorf reviewed the course
for us, and my plan was to take out the pace fast and work the finale
hill as hard as I could. The race started with a false start after many
of us had already run about 200 meters up the first small hill. I guess
someone had fallen. To my benefit, I actually got a much better start
the second time. I led the race for about the first half mile, and then
Tina Fironz from Benicia came up and led through the mile mark. With about
half a mile to go, I pressed the pace and took the lead again. I pushed
hard up the finale hill (which was much tougher than it looked!), and
then tried to stride out down the downhill to the finish line. I am pleased
with my results and my time and am excited to race again in this meet
next year!"
