General Coaches Alliance Meeting Minutes

1. Brad Peters of ML King will fill the VP position for the Alliance vacated by Jim Clendaniel, who takes over for Peter Brewer as President. This will be a 2-month position. Elections for this office will be in October. Ballots will be sent out to Alliance Members. Any Alliance member from the southern half of the state is eligible to run. Nominations will be taken now until October.

2. Peter Brewer will continue to do the newsletter for the Alliance.

3. State qualifying this year is done by strength of section. The SS is guaranteed 4 positions at each level. During a 3-year average, at the state meet, sections will be given at-large positions. This year the SS is allowed 7 spots in all girls divisions, 7 spots in D2, D3, & D5. 6 spots in D1 & D4 on the boys’ side.

4. All-CIF patches will be purchased by the Alliance for the top 7 boys & girls. The SS Coaches Alliance will purchase the 2nd team All-CIF patches for the next 7 boys & girls.

5. A discussion of the division breakdown was discussed to balance out divisions 3, 4, & 5. A proposal will be taken to the advisory committee on September 23rd. to set D5 at 350 & D4, at 840. D1, D2, & D3 will remain the same.

6. It was suggested that the dead period for XC be set to the first dead period and that a letter be submitted to CIF if a coach wants to use the 2nd dead period. This will be brought up at the Advisory Committee on the 23rd.

7. The Advisory Committee will also discuss what the exact roll of the committee should be as it pertains to XC.

8. CIF will only purchase 2 plaques for CIF Finals. The third place plaque will not be given out. This decision was made by the CIF Office to bring us in line with the rest of the sports. The top 10 individuals in each division will be given their awards at the divisional ceremony. 11-15 will be given in the chute at the conclusion of each race.

9. The SS needs to propose to the state advisory that we qualify 25 teams to the state for 2003. The course can hold that many teams safely, and schools should be given the opportunity to compete.

10. Individuals qualifying to CIF Finals will be limited to 24. 12 from each race in a 2-race format, 8 from a 3-race format, and 6 from a 4 race format at CIF Prelims. Qualifying to the state meet will remain at 5 individuals.

11. Schedule for CIF Prelims goes as follows:

Starting at 7:45: D5-B,D1-G,D4-B,D5-G,D1-B,D4-G
Starting at 1:30: D2-B, D3-G,D3-B, D2-G
