short note on the Yreka Varsity race. The weather was great and I
think it may have rained a little the night before because the ground was
slightly damp. I got out at the start and shared the lead with Lauren
Jesperson (Klamath Union) as we started up the first hill. We had a pretty
conservative pace early on maintaining somewhat of a pack. At the top of
the first hill Lauren surged ahead to where he remained for the rest of the
race. I stayed within, more or less, 30 yards for the remainder of the
race. I believe Kevin Pellegrino, also from KU, was within striking
distance of me until a little after the 2-mile point. Lauren finished in
15:26, a new course record, I came in second in 15:37 followed by Kevin in
15:52. I feel pretty good about the race and I look forward to racing at
the Stanford Inv.
