Rancho Cotate Invitational - Friday 9/6 - Info from John Anderson - Thanks to Tony Kauke for his NCS Info

A strong local group, mostly from Sonoma County will gather this Friday for the Rancho Cotate Invitational, a flat fast 2.75 mile course that is a "drop-in" type of early season event that may add some folks to the strong fields below.
The Santa Rosa area schools are on more than a tremendous run in the distances in recent year, with super individuals and groups forming teams that are the equal of any area in the nation. The long string of top individual female runners in recent years, led by Julia Stamps, Trina Cox, Jennie Aldridge, and Sara Bei, have been backed up by strong groups, with the tradition continuing!! Bei is starring at Stanford and Aldridge has moved on to Arizona State, but Montgomery and Maria Carrillo will once again come out charging on the Girls' side, with Montgomery and Santa Rosa having area-ranked Boys' teams.

The Montgomery Girls are currently ranked #1 overall in the entire North Coast Section, with Maria Carrillo following close behind. The duo are 1-2 in the NCS Division II, with Montgomery #3 and MC #5 Statewide Division II in the preseason listings!!! Junio Kim Conley, soph Emma Conley, and Kim Handel lead six of last year's top seven returning, with Maria Carrillo's Carina Hendricks moving over for academic program reasons to join the Montgomery crew. Maria Carrillo has soph Amy Robinson leading (10th State Meet), with a sub 5:00 1600 in track. Veteran Ashlee Drady and Meghan Boes help form a solid nucleus for MC that will make their match-ups all season long with Montgomery a state highlight more than once this Fall. Healdsburg, led by Kelly Rogers, is ranked #3 NCS Preseason Division IV. Meagan Goedewagen (Justin Siena, Napa) is one of the top Division IV NCS Individuals.

The Santa Rosa area rivalry spills over the Boys' side also, with Montgomery (#6) and Santa Rosa (#9 in initial overall poll) among the NCS Top ten list overall going into the season. Montgomery is ranked #2 Division II NCS with Santa Rosa #3. Montgomery had Matt Fitch and K.C. Cody among the Section top-ten in Cross-Country at their level last Fall, with Andrew Gallagher and 1:55.3 800 star Regan Masi fine spring seasons. Santa Rosa has five back from last year's team, with Eddy McFarlin and Silas Stafford among the Section's top 25 finishers Division II. Ruben Mora-Roman (Analy, Sebastapol) and Richard Elmore (Justin Siena, Napa) were given a call among the Section's top individuals pre-season.
