Final Summer AAF Cross Country Clinic - 8/17 Mt. SAC - Ken Reeves

Saturday 8/17 AAF Super Cross-Country Clinic Summary - Ken Reeves

The AAF Super Cross Country Clinic was attended by over 120 coaches this
past Saturday at Mt Sac. Keynote speaker, Ron Mann of the very successful
Northern Arizona University program, educated the main room for over three
hours. Tania Fischer and former world record holder Jacqueline Hansen gave
the crowd a comprehensive view of the history of women's running in the
United States while former Thousand Oaks coach, Jack Farrell, challenged a
packed room to look at his rather unconventional but highly successful
approach to distance training. Manny Bautista, former USA Cross Country
Coach, discussed cutting edge information discussed at the recent USAT&F
Distance committee meetings.

These are but a few of the highlights of this well attended program. Over
the course of the summer, well over 300 coaches have participated in the AAF
Cross Country Coaching education program. The Amateur Athletic Foundation
continues to enrich the sports world in Southern California.

While the summer cross country program is over, there are still other
clinics on the horizon. The highly successful Footlocker Clinic will return
to Mt Sac once again on Friday, December 6. Walt Lange of Jesuit, Curtis
Williams of Gallup, New Mexico and Pat Tyson, former Oregon teammate of
Steve Prefontaine and the highly successful coach of the outstanding Mead
High School program in the state of Washington, will headline the clinic.
Bill Tokar of Ventura (Josh Spiker's high school coach) and Ken Reeves will
do a 6 hour session on the planning of the season, from day one to the end
of the season. Information and registration can be achieved by going to the
Footlocker West site (footlockerwest.com and then click on the clinic).
Space is currently limited to 100 participants and those registering by
October 1 will only pay $35. Hurry and sign up for this clinic as it has
sold out the last two years.

In January, the AAF returns to the free clinic business with their annual
track and field clinics. The first of two event specific clinics will take
place at Mt Sac on January 11. The second event specific clinic site and
date will be determined in the near future. The annual Super Saturday
Clinic (Hot Topics) will take place on Saturday, January 25 with many top
track and field clinicians presenting. Check the AAF site at
www.aafla.org for clinic information in the near future.
