The AAF has officially changed its nameit is now the LA84 Foundation--and there is even a new logo;
however, the one thing that hasnt changed is the great track and cross country clinic program.
It is going stronger than ever, and this summer it will offer a great series of clinics that are open to all
coaches and interested adults.
The first of three great LA84 summer cross country clinics--each one offering a full Advanced Level
along with a full Beginning Level of presentations--will be offered Saturday, June 16 at Mt. SAC college.
This first clinic, which is absolutely free for all who want to attend, will focus in the Advanced Sessions
on the philosophy and physiology of creating an effective summer program along with a special emphasis
on coaching females and building a strong overall program.
There will also be a full Beginning Level set of sessions focusing on the basic physiology of training
the high school distance runner, setting up a training plan, recruiting and building a program, and the
rules and regulations of the sport.
Presenters will include Rene Paragas, who led his Saugus girls team to the 2006 California State
Division 1 title; Brent Thorne, whose girls not only won the San Diego Section title last year but also
went on to place third in the state meet; Bill Tokar, whose girls team at Ventura shattered the
ll time course record at Woodward Park running 92:44 on route to winning the Division 1 title;
Ken Reeves, whose teams won 11 state cross country championships; Pat Hadley, who has molded
Valencia into a cross country powerhouse winning the CIF-SS title in 2005; and Jon Zimmerman,
who led Orange Lutheran to four CIF-SS titles before moving on to become the head coach
at Biola University.
The clinics are free to all coaches and interested adults who would like attend. You can pre-register
for June 16 or either one of the other two clinics and also see a copy of the full clinic agenda at
