in the State) May 31 – Top 20 Spotlight Team of the Week: Girls – Carlmont (15th in the State) California CA Boys – 4/18: Jesuit (CA) leaped over Los Gatos (CA) this week to grab the number one spot in the tough region. Nationally, the top three teams did slip a bit in the rankings with strong performances from outside this strong state. Jesuit excels with efforts from Evan Watchempino running well in the 1600m (4:22.67) and two mile (9:24.04) as well as Troy Casteneda’s solid performance in the vault at 14’2”. 4/25 Update: Los Gatos (CA) jumps back into first place in this tough region with 7625 points. Matthew Petrillo’s 8:45.11 3000m and Nico Weiler’s stellar vault of 16’8” as well as Kevin Rutledge’s high jump of 6’7.25” brings this team back to the top. 5/2 Update: Vista Murrieta had a few improvements this past week to put them back into first place in this region and eleventh nationally but only by two points ahead of number two region team, Los Gatos. Only thirty-nine points separate the top three teams in this region. Stay tuned to what happens in this perennially tough state with CIF and State drawing near! Vista Murrieta’s Namar Burton’s 110m hurdle mark of 14.91 and Nick Mixon’s 10.95 100m leads this team. 5/09 Update: Number one regional Vista Murrieta had a huge week this past week to catapult them from a number eleven spot nationally to a number eight spot. League final improvements from Jamel King in the shot put (50’11”), Nick Ross in the high jump (6’7”), Kavon Seaton in the 100m (10.88), DJ Lloyd in the long jump (23’5.75”) and Chase Welch in the 3200m (9:51.93) helps this team this past week. Look out for more marks from this team with CIF and the state meet in the coming weeks. 5/16 Update: Big week for Los Gatos (CA) who takes over the number one spot this week in this tight region by only three points over Vista Murrieta. New marks this past week from Dylan Shawhan for a 4:27.81 in the 1600m, Michael Scales, 16.11 in the 110m hurdle, Nico Weiler’s 17’3” pole vault and Colin Quirke shot put of 58’7” helps this teams’ cause. 5/24 Update: Los Gatos (CA) still forges ahead this week on top with new marks from Dylan Shawhan in the 1600m (4:23.32), Kevin Rutledge in the long jump (23’2”) and from Colin Quirke in both the discus (172’7”) and shot put (60’8.25”) good for a number three spot nationally. 5/31 Update: Los Gatos (CA) is still on top of the strong region. Jesuit edges closer to second place Vista Murrieta who is in second by only three points. CA Girls – 4/18: Powerhouse Murrieta Valley (CA) gets knocked off the top nationally by Texas’ Kingwood but remains strong on top of this strong state. Taryn Pastoor has run well in the 1600m (5:06.89) and 3200m (10:58.9) as well as Amber Middleton in the 100m hurdles (14.8) and Kelsey Rubeor’s throws in the discus (121’5”) and shot put (43’3”). 4/25 Update: Murrieta Valley (CA) tops this region still and remains at number two nationally by only nineteen points to Collins Hill (GA). Amber Middleton bettered her own 100m hurdle mark to 14.66 and Tiyuana Anderson’s 12.2 in the 110m helps this team. Mira Costa (CA) joins these elite top California teams with a huge week to bring them in at number three and number seven nationally. Look for what they can bring in the weeks to come. 5/2 Update: Murrieta Valley (CA), top ranked team in this tough region, was dealt a blow this past week with the loss of their super star, Kelsey Rubeor, to a major knee injury. Her marks posted now will have to prevail for the rest of the season to keep this team strong in the rankings. No new marks from this team this past week but remains strong 271 points ahead of number two, Saugus. Saugus (CA) and Mission Viejo (CA) have a big week to jump them into the top three this week. 5/09 Update: Murrieta Valley will not lay down with Kelsey Rubeor out as other teammates pick up the pace and have some nice marks to help this team out this past week. Tiyauna Anderson improves upon her 110m mark with a 12.42 and Natalya Erbel comes in with a 9’0” pole vault mark to help the team’s cause. Mission Viejo takes over the number two spot regionally by a narrow 25 points over Saugus in the strong region with marks from Natalie Roy in the 110m hurdle (14.11) and Lauren Medina in the 1600m (5:21). 5/16 Update: Murrieta Valley is on top this week. The top three teams had no new marks to report on but just wait, with CIF finals, Masters meets and the California State Meet around the corner for the coming weeks, these teams will only explode. 5/24 Update: Murrieta Valley, with no new marks again this week, remains strong at number one but drops a few spots nationally to the number five spot. Saugus jumps from number three to number two with stellar marks from Shannon Murakami in the 1600m (4:42.50) and 3200m (10:31.24) from her amazing double at CIF finals and Heather Snyder’s 132’5” mark in the discus. 5/31 Update: No new marks from these top three teams this week but with the state meet coming up this weekend we could see a few new ones.
