Kraychir Signs National Letter of Intent

Twentynine Palms CA – Trevor Kraychir signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Boise State University, and compete for their Track and Field Team. Trevor is agreeing to a full athletic scholarship offer, which includes full tuition, room, board, books and fees, in return for his athletic and scholastic talents.

Trevor is arguably one of the best high school hammer and weight throwers in the United States today. As a junior last season Trevor had the third best 25-pound weight throw, 74’11”, and the third best 35-pound weight throw, 56’1”, in the nation. He also took third at the Nike High School Nationals in Washington DC.

During his outdoor season, Trevor struggled to find his technique, but eventually found the 16-pound hammer more to his liking. Throwing for VS Athletic Track Club at the USATF Club Nationals (Mt. Sac), Trevor threw an impressive throw of 189’3” to take third place in the meet, and give him a 2nd place ranking nationally. This mark put him only 9” under the all time high school list. Trevor is also a great student, with an unweighted GPA of 3.92 and a weighted GPA of 4.43.

Trevor received a great many calls from some of this nations finest University’s. So when asked why he decided on Boise State University, Trevor said, “I felt very comfortable with the coach, the track team and the University. Mike Maynard is perhaps one of the best throws coaches in the country, and his resume of accomplishments is remarkable. I also got a good feeling from the University campus and the wonderful people in Boise. They made me feel like I was at home. I now know I will make an easy adjustment to life in Boise.”

Now that Trevor’s decision is out of the way, he can focus on his senior season. He will spotlight the 35-pound weight throw and the 16-pound hammer. Trevor wants to be remembered as one of the best big ball high school throwers of all time, with goals of throwing over 60’ with the 35-pound weight throw and over 200’ with the 16-pound hammer. This will place Trevor amongst some of the best throwers of all-time and perhaps in the top 5. Throwing the bigger implements will also better prepare him for his future career competing at the NCAA Division I National Track and Field Championships.

“I had a great many discussions with Coach Maynard these past few months, and I sensed the reason he recruited me was because of my ability to adjust to the bigger implements, which is a common problem for high school throwers. It is not uncommon for high school throwers to have big distances with the high school implements, but once they get to college they become non-performers at the NCAA Championships. I am glad Coach Maynard picked up on this important distinction between many of this nations best high school throwers,” Trevor said.

Trevor is part of a throwing family. His younger brother and two sisters are also hammer and weight throwers. All four of the Kraychir children make up Team Kraychir, and are coached by their father who was also a good thrower in his day. Hank Kraychir threw for USC and was a 4-time All-American in the shot put and discus. Trent Kraychir was one of this nations best sophomore hammer throwers last year. Casey Kraychir was in 8th grade and Katie Kraychir was in 7th grade last season; and although they could not compete in the national high school championships last year, they had throws good enough to perhaps make the finals.

Boise State University is quickly becoming known for its Football and Track and Field programs. Boise’s Football program is currently ranked 14th in the nation with a good shot of making the BCS playoffs. Last year the Boise Track and Field Team won their conference meets and placed 14th at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Head Track and Field Coach Mike Maynard has been with Boise State University for 6 years now. Maynard brought a great deal of experience with him from the University of Arizona. While at Arizona, Coach Maynard established himself as one of this country’s best throws coaches. During his 6 years at Boise, Coach Maynard has transformed the University’s Track and Field program into one of the best in the United States today.

Specifically related to Boise’s throws, Coach Maynard can boast a 2nd place in the hammer and a 3rd place in the Javelin at last years NCAA Division I Outdoor National Track and Field Championships. Mike Maynard believes that by signing Trevor to Boise’s team, they now has a realistic shot at having three 220’ hammer throwers in one season; a phenomenal ambition that few programs have ever accomplished.
