It was in 2003 that then-senior Daniel Nunn led his team to a magical
ride
en route to the CIF-State Division III team title while earning the
individual
race title as well. Dan, who is entering his sophomore year at Georgetown
(and loving every minute of it, he tells us) is always quick to commend
his
high school coach (Steve Boaz, pointing in photo above) as the best
there is.
Day
2 - Tuesday 7/26
Morning Workout:
I rolled out of bed around
10 AM to start my workout. Unfortunately, due to the time change I slept
through my alarm and missed working out with the other distance guys at
9 AM. By the time I reached the track everbody was finishing up their
workouts or were already cooling down. I started my run after a brief
phone call to my coach to confirm my workout. When I told him the weather
and the humidity weren't too bad, Mark scoffed and started whining about
the humidity. That's ok though, because So Cal boys never really experience
that kind of weather. (Editor's note: Mark, you are getting
dissed!)
My workout was a few thousands
and some snappy 200's. The thousands felt easy, and I was dead even on
each split that Pan American coach John McNichols read off. The 200's
were the highlight. I always feel like one bad dood when I get to throw
down a little heat on my 200's. By the end of my 200's, Canada's top 5k
runner and his coaches were giving me the stare down. I thought that was
funny.
After my workout I headed for the
village and found my roommates. We all headed over to lunch. After we
arrived back in our suite, a storm caused the power to go out. Without
AC it got really hot on the second story of our suite, so all of us congregated
in the first floor living room to relax. When the power came back on we
discovered that our thermostat had died, probably due to the power surge
after the storm. After we iced, Mark and I escaped to the girls suit,
which houses Lindsay, Marie, a couple race walkers, and Lisa from UM.
We played cards with the girls and the three Eastern Michigan boys, Neil,
Josh, and Jake. All the USA girls are really nice and very cute. (Editor's
note: You can all tell that Nunn is a player.)
We took off for dinner after talking
about Senior pranks and a lot of other random stuff. Once we came back
from dinner, Neil called his brother who lives about 45 minutes outside
of Windsor and had him smuggle a 13 inch TV into Canada for us. That has
been a blessing ever since. At the team meeting we all stood up and told
our name, event, sc hool and favorite toy from when we were a kid. I was
forced to choose between my two favorite toys: those little bouncy balls
you buy for 25 cents at K Mart, or my rubber duckie. I chose the latter.
Anyhow, I hope everybody is enjoying their summer.
God bless.
