This year’s clinic will feature

Coaching presentations --

Tony Sandoval, UC Berkeley cross country coach. 

    Entering his 24th year coaching at Cal, Coach Sandoval has latched onto
one of the best recruiting classes in recent memory.  Competing for the
Bears this fall will be freshmen Mark Matuszak (Loyola HS) , Yosef Ghebray
(James Logan HS),  Jake Schmitt  (Redwood HS of Larkspur) .MIguel Camarea
(Salinas) HS, Matt Miller (Loyola HS), Will Moser (Clayton Valley HS),  &
Gabi Rios-Sotelo (St. Mary’s HS).

Brian Henderson,  head coach of Miramonte High School

    Brian has taken the Matadors to the State Meet on a regular basis for the
last 6 years, garnering a state title (Girls Division III 2003) and
numerous top 5 finishes both boys and girls.  Competing in the ultra-tough
Diablo Foothill Athletic League, Henderson’s squads have to do weekly
battle against the likes of multilple state champions Campolindo and
College Park, not to mention Acalanes and Northgate who also frequent the
top 10 state rankings.

Beginning coach, rookie coach, new coach, interested coach session:
    Peter Brewer of Castro Valley will present the basics of  administering a
running program.  This will cover the essentials of recruiting and
promoting a program; go over all the areas of coaching no one ever told
you about; and give the esentials of  planning and scheduling workouts.

Hands-on coaching session:
    The featured coaches will have athletes go thorugh sample drills and
workouts to demonstrate points from the presentations.

Round Table Open Forum
    Clinic attenders have time for a question-and-answer session with all of
the presenters.

Clinic Social -   
    Everyone is invited to reconvene at the local pizzaria for informal chat
and socialization

Cost:   
    the cost of the clinic is $25.00 and includes a 2005-2006 membership in
the Coaches’ Alliance

Coaching Certification --
    Upon completion of clinic attendance and an examination, attenders will
receive certification as either a Beginning or Advanced Coach.  This
certification is accepted at many high schools and is often part of hiring
policies.
